Planning a wedding can be very intimidating! Let us help make this part of the process a little easier.
Q: What do I look for in a wedding makeup artist?
A: Look at the portfolio and resume. Is the makeup well blended? Does the brides face look overdone? Does her face match her neck? If there are false eyelashes, can you see them? How much and what kind of experience and does the artist have? Look at the reviews: did their previous brides feel at ease with the booking process, and did they get what they were looking for?
Q: What do I do once I have found an artist I love?
A: First things first, a trial is a MUST! I have heard too many stories of brides who didn't do a trial to save costs, and ended up in tears on their wedding day because they didn't get what they were looking for or expecting. Plus, this is a very intimate day. You want to know the person who is coming to spend this time with you! Don't be surprised. Enjoy your day at ease with your friends and family, because you already know what to expect on the best day of your life!
Q: What should I expect at the trial?
A: Expect to spend AT LEAST an hour with your artist. We spend at least two at our trials. This isn't a hair salon appointment. Get to know your artist. Make sure you like them as a person, and that they are easy to work with. This is YOUR day. Make sure you are getting what you want. If you decide to book, expect to put down a deposit and sign a contract. Dates are never held without a deposit. Don't put a deposit down on someone you don't know. Be absolutely sure you love the artist and your look!
Q: How far in advance should I book a trial and my artist?
A: Book as soon as possible! Experienced bridal artists are often booked up to a year in advanced, especially for popular dates such as the beginning of the summer, holidays, and mild temperature months. We take deposits at the trial, and since your face won't change much (unlike hair, where length and colors can change drastically before a wedding), you can do your trial as soon as possible.
Q: Do I tip my artists, and if so, how much is standard?
A: Tips are expected for any kind of service: waiters, bellboys, hair stylists and manicurists, etc. Except in those areas, you go to them. We are an On-Location service: We come to you for your trial and your day of, plus we are around 24/7 to answer any and all questions you have about the process. It is our goal to make this process as easy and convenient for you as possible. Because of our dedication to you in this process, gratuities are greatly appreciated. 20% is the going standard for any service.
Q: How much time should I allot for my makeup on my wedding day?
A: At Elegant Brides, we provide the makeup schedule for you. It is our pleasure to make your day as easy as possible, and since we love what we do, we prefer to handle this for you. We know how long it takes for each bridesmaid, every set of eyelashes, how long it will take you to get dressed and out the door, as well as every surprise visit that may distract from finishing on time.
